What to Expect
This safari offers a complete primate experience in Uganda. From the dense jungles of Bwindi to the volcanic landscapes of Mgahinga, each day brings a new adventure.
You’ll trek through thick forests in search of mountain gorillas, spend meaningful time observing them, and later explore the traditions of the Batwa people. The journey concludes with golden monkey tracking—an energetic and unique wildlife encounter found only in this region.
Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi - Equator Stopover
Your safari begins with a drive from Kampala or Entebbe to southwestern Uganda. Along the way, you’ll stop at the Uganda Equator in Kayabwe for photos and a chance to experience this iconic geographical landmark.
After lunch in Mbarara, continue through rolling hills, spotting Ankole long-horned cattle and enjoying the lush countryside. Arrival at Bwindi is in the evening for relaxation.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking & Batwa Cultural Experience
After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing before setting off into the forest in search of a habituated gorilla family.
The trek can take between 2 to 8 hours, depending on the gorillas’ location. Once found, you’ll spend one hour observing these incredible primates in their natural habitat.
In the afternoon, enjoy the Batwa trail experience, where you’ll meet the indigenous forest dwellers and learn about their traditional way of life through storytelling, music, and demonstrations.
Day 3: Transfer to Mgahinga & Gorilla Trekking
After an early breakfast, travel to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, located at the borders of Uganda, Rwanda, and Congo.
Set within the Virunga Mountains, the park is home to three volcanic peaks—Mount Muhabura, Mount Gahinga, and Mount Sabinyo. Here, you’ll embark on another gorilla trekking experience, offering a different terrain and perspective compared to Bwindi.
Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking & Return to Kampala
Begin your day with an exciting golden monkey trekking experience in Mgahinga. These rare and playful primates are unique to the Virunga region and provide a lively contrast to gorillas.
After the trek, begin your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe, marking the end of your safari.
