Gorilla Permits in Rwanda

In Rwanda, permits cost USD $1500 per person. They include park entry fees and are issued by the Rwanda Development Board. As with Uganda, the permit must be paid in full in advance.

Gorilla Trekking Rules and Conditions

To protect both visitors and gorillas, strict trekking guidelines are followed:

• Visitors showing signs of contagious illnesses such as flu or colds will not be allowed to trek.

• If a visitor is declared unfit to trek due to illness, up to 50% of the permit fee may be refunded, subject to the park authority’s discretion.

• Permits are generally non-refundable. However, if visitors trek all day and fail to see gorillas (a rare occurrence), 50% of the trekking fee may be refunded.

• Purchasing a permit does not guarantee a clear sighting, although sightings are extremely likely.

• The minimum age for gorilla trekking is 15 years.

By purchasing a gorilla trekking permit, visitors directly contribute to the conservation of the Mountain Gorilla. Revenue from permits helps manage national parks and fund wildlife protection programs.
