Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe Airport

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be welcomed by our driver-guide and transferred to your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. Relax after your journey and prepare for the upcoming mountain expedition. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: Transfer to Kasese

After breakfast, depart for Kasese via the scenic route through Fort Portal. The drive passes through the beautiful Kyenjojo plains with views of tea plantations and rolling hills. Lunch will be taken in Fort Portal before continuing to Kasese under the dramatic backdrop of the Rwenzori Mountains. Overnight in Kasese or at Ibanda near Nyakalengija.

Day 3: Nyakalengija – Nyabitaba Camp (2,651 m)

The trek begins at the offices of Rwenzori Mountaineering Services in Nyakalengija. After a briefing and equipment check, the trail ascends through farmland to the park boundary before entering dense tropical forest along the Mubuku River. The route crosses the Mahoma River before climbing steeply to Nyabitaba Ridge. Along the way you may see colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and the colorful Rwenzori Turaco.
Trekking time: 6–7 hours.

Day 4: Nyabitaba – John Matte Camp (3,505 m)

The trail descends through forest to the Kurt Shafer Bridge, where the Mubuku and Bujuku rivers meet. The route continues through bamboo forest and slippery moss-covered rocks before entering the giant heather zone filled with lobelias and groundsels. Views of Mount Stanley and Mount Speke appear as you approach John Matte Hut.
Trekking time: 7–8 hours.

Day 5: John Matte – Bujuku Camp (3,962 m)

From John Matte Hut, cross the Bujuku River and traverse the famous Bigo Bogs, an alpine wetland filled with giant lobelias. After navigating the bogs, the trail reaches Lake Bujuku, offering spectacular views of Mount Baker and Mount Stanley. Bujuku Camp lies in a narrow valley below Stuhlmann Pass and is an important acclimatization stop before summit attempts.
Trekking time: 4–5 hours.

Day 6: Bujuku – Elena Camp (4,541 m)

The trail climbs steeply west of Lake Bujuku through the Groundsel Gully, a dramatic valley filled with giant groundsels and alpine vegetation. Continue over large boulders to Elena Hut, located near the base of Mount Stanley. This icy high-altitude hut serves as the staging point for the summit climb.
Trekking time: 5–6 hours.

Day 7: Summit Margherita Peak – Kitandara Camp

Wake up before dawn for the summit attempt of Margherita Peak. The climb involves crossing glaciers, navigating exposed rock sections, and trekking across the Stanley Plateau before reaching the summit at 5,109 meters.

After enjoying breathtaking views from the highest point in Uganda, descend back to Elena Hut for lunch. Later continue through Scott-Elliot Pass and descend to the scenic Kitandara Lakes, where you will spend the night at Kitandara Camp.
Climb time: 4–5 hours ascent, 2–3 hours descent to Elena, 3–4 hours to Kitandara.

Day 8: Kitandara – Guy Yeoman Camp (3,261 m)

From Kitandara, climb steeply along the slopes of Mount Baker to Freshfield Pass, where views stretch into the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The trail then descends through rocky alpine terrain and past Bujongolo rock shelter, the historic base camp of the 1906 expedition led by the Duke of Abruzzi. Overnight at Guy Yeoman Camp.
Trekking time: 6–7 hours.

Day 9: Guy Yeoman – Nyabitaba – Nyakalengija

Begin the long descent through bamboo forests and across the Mubuku River. The trail reconnects with Nyabitaba before continuing down to Nyakalengija base camp, marking the completion of the Central Circuit trek.
Trekking time: 7–8 hours.

Day 10: Transfer to Entebbe

After breakfast, transfer back to Entebbe for your international departure, concluding your unforgettable Rwenzori mountain adventure.
